This elephant is a handcrafted piece of marble, which has a
pure gold-leaf work on it. This art has its origin in the royal city of Jaipur
(Rajasthan). Once a marble product is made designs are drawn on it by skilled
craftsman. The subject of these designs vary from flower motifs to traditional
miniature paintings, musical instruments and traditional jewellery designs.
These designs are next imprinted with pure gold leaf with an adhesive, these
areas are further embellished with pure gold polish and colours and in the end
the whole piece is lacquered.
