The art of painting marble with gold leaf work has its origin in the royal city of Jaipur (Rajasthan). Once a marble product is made designs are drawn on it by skilled craftsman. The subject of these designs vary from flower motifs to traditional miniature paintings and old traditional jewellery designs. These designs are next imprinted with pure gold leaf with an adhesive, these areas are further embellished with pure gold polish and colours and in the end the whole piece is lacquered.
This exquisite flower pot in marble is hand painted depicting 12 months (Bara Masa) of the Hindu Lunar Calendar. The artist has beautifully shown the seasons of the year (12 month) namely vaishakha , Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shraavana, Bhadra, Ashvin, Kartik, Agahana, Pausha, Magha, Phalguna & Chaitra.
