The Banaras cutwork table mat set is produced by clipping the extra floating threads that are not engaged in the design formation and lying loose in the backside of the table mat. The materials used for the weaving of the cutwork table mat is cotton.
Cutwork table covers are woven on a traditional throw shuttle pit loom
with the attachment of jacquard. Designs are created by using extra weft yarn.
In this table mat, designing is done with the continuous extra weft thread
instead of using many short length threads as done in other techniques.
Unwanted loose threads floating between two motifs are clipped with the
scissors after weaving leaving the base fabric open.
