Matka Silk is a rough handloom silk fabric made from the waste Mulberry Silk (Bombyx Mori) without removing its gum (sericin) part. It is largely obtained from the states of Karnataka and Kashmir but its spinning is done in the Malda and Murshidabad districts in West Bengal Matka silk is a fabric made from hand-spun silk and raw silk, spun directly from the cocoon without removing the gum (sericin). It is then handwoven on looms giving it that unique rough look. As such, it is often referred to as khadi silk or raw silk tree finishes offered, and each look and feel depends on which yarn was used in the warp and which one used for the weft:
