‘Pich’ meaning back, and ‘Vai’ meaning hanging. Pichwai are a traditional
Indian art form, having originated in Nathdwara, a small town in the Northern
part of India. They were paintings done on large pieces of cloth, which covered
the wall behind the idol.
Each 'Pichwai Painting' takes
many days to be completed, and the details are so fine, that the artists, at
some point, have to use single-haired paint brushes. Traditionally, only
natural colours are used and the artwork is hung on the wall. However, it
