This beautifully carved statue is handcrafted by the expert artisan in Rajasthan. This figure is a handcrafted piece of marble, which has a pure gold-leaf work on it. This art has its origin in the royal city of Jaipur (Rajasthan). The subject of these designs varies from flower motifs to traditional miniature paintings, musical instruments and traditional jewellery designs. Once the design is drawn it by skilled craftsman on the marble the gold leaf is pasted on it with adhesive. The surface is further painted with enamel colour that enhances the visual appeal of the product. These areas are further embellished with pure gold polish and colours and in the end the whole piece is lacquered. The craftsmen acquired this particular skill from their forefathers. In fact, these marble carvings take days and days of dedicated and painstaking efforts. The tools they use- chisels, hammers, polishers- Are very delicate so as to make the statues without any blemishes. For decoration purpose the gold leaves or extremely thin sheets of gold, known as “Varak” are pressed onto the statue. The intricate cut and strict regulations followed during the manufacturing process give the idols high strength and durability.
