Banaras brocade is the technique is the technique of decorative weaving brought to this city of weaving from Ahmedabad around 17 Century. The design is woven by inserting extra weft silk yarn with a mechanical contrivance called Naksha/ Jala. This device is arrangement threads, created on the Naksha and transferred cotton thread on wooden framed by skilled designers called Nakshaband. This jala is tied to the wrap thread with cotton string in such a fashion, that weaver is able lift only the select warp thread as per requirement of the design. This device help the pattern maker to create a vast range of design which appear like woven painting.
Shikar, which meaning "to hunt," is the root of the term that gives its name to shikargah sarees. Before, hunting grounds were referred to by the same term. In this challenging weaving method, animals are seen hunting against a background of organic banarasi silk using zari work.
